I’m from Texas. I’m proud of being a Southerner. I love pretty much everything about the South. It’s great.
I’m also going to college on a full academic scholarship to become an engineer. So I don’t understand why some people think that all Southerners are stupid, lazy, fat, etc.
Arguing about who is better because of where you happened to be born is just stupid. It wasn’t my choice to be born in Texas, just like it wasn’t your choice to be born in California, or New York, or Canada, or England. Yet because we were accidentally plopped out here, we have this immense sense of entitlement, like that somehow makes us superior to others.
I’ve been to California, and New York. I would love to go to Canada and England, and all over the world. I know that not all Californians are drug-happy hippies, and not all New Yorkers are assholes. Not all Canadians say “eh” and not all Brits have bad teeth. Just like I know that not all Southerners are stupid, nor are they all graced with “southern charm.” Everywhere has the same mix of people, attitudes, and outlooks. I could find plenty of people anywhere that I genuinely liked and could hold a conversation with, even if I don’t necessarily agree with them about everything.
People who think that all Americans are fat, lazy, stupid, etc., are the definition of the word Ignorant. Just as anyone who believes all of a certain group falls into a certain stereotype. You can find anyone anywhere.
