Sadness has always been a companion of mine. I am a hard-of-hearing individual, who has carried sorrow like a heavy burden. It’s hard to understand other in social situations. Everyone laughs when a joke is made, but I just grin uncomfortably because I do not hear what is going on. I am denied the happiness I seek so desparately. Today is my birthday, and no one remembers. And so together me and sorrow celebrate. I am 24.
