01 / About

A small history of Group Hug.

Group Hug began in 2003 as an anonymous confessions site. People posted the things they could not say anywhere else: shame, desire, loneliness, relief, cruelty, humor, grief, and occasional nonsense.

The original archive ran through 2009 and accumulated nearly half a million entries. This version brings that archive back online and allows new confessions to be added under the same basic premise: no account, minimal friction, and a strong bias toward letting the text speak for itself.

The site is intentionally simple. The point is not profile-building or discussion. The point is the release that comes from saying the thing.

03 / Context

How the site works.

New confessions are anonymous and moderated before they appear publicly. Public posts can be reacted to with hugs. Share links point to individual confession pages.

The public side of the site is designed to minimize tracking and avoid unnecessary cookies. If you need the policies that govern privacy, moderation, liability, or takedown requests, see the legal page.
