Legal
Privacy, terms, moderation, and notices.
This page is meant to provide baseline public-facing legal and policy notices for the site. It is general boilerplate, not a guarantee of full compliance in every jurisdiction. If the site grows, handles sensitive categories at scale, or serves regulated markets, get local counsel.
Operator and contact
Site contact: hello@grouphug.us
Use that address for legal notices, abuse complaints, copyright claims, privacy questions, and requests relating to specific content.
That same address is the current public point of contact for illegal-content notices, privacy complaints, and user-content removal requests.
Privacy notice
Group Hug is designed to minimize data collection. The site does not require user accounts. If you submit a confession, the site stores the text you submit, a timestamp, and moderation state. If you vote or interact with the site, limited technical data may be processed to prevent abuse, keep the site operational, and measure basic usage.
On the public-facing site, analytics are designed to be cookie-free. Basic product analytics and visitor estimates are derived server-side from request data in a pseudonymous form. The public site is not intended to use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies.
Necessary cookies may still be used in limited cases where they are required for a feature to function without materially changing the privacy posture. That currently includes admin authentication and similar strictly necessary flows, not public behavioral advertising or cross-site profiling.
Because confessions may contain sensitive information, do not submit anything you are not willing to place on a third-party system, even if it is submitted anonymously.
Data categories, purposes, and legal bases
The site may process: confession text, moderation status, vote records, share or search actions, coarse request metadata, abuse-prevention signals, push subscription data if you opt into notifications, and admin authentication data for the moderation interface.
These data are used to operate the site, review and publish confessions, prevent abuse, secure the service, measure aggregate usage, deliver optional notifications, and comply with legal obligations. Where applicable, the operator relies on legitimate interests in running and securing the service, performance of the requested service, consent for optional notification permissions, and legal obligations where law requires preservation, disclosure, or removal.
Recipients, transfers, and retention
Group Hug runs on third-party infrastructure providers used to host the site, deliver content, and store operational data. Data may therefore be processed in countries outside your own, including the United States.
Confessions may remain stored until removed, hidden, or lawfully erased. Moderation and abuse-prevention records may be retained as long as operationally necessary. Analytics are meant for lightweight product understanding, with the admin overview focused on a rolling 30-day view even if raw operational data persists longer for maintenance or security review.
Rights and requests
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, object to, or restrict certain processing, or to request a copy of certain personal data. To make a request, email hello@grouphug.us.
If you are contacting the site about a specific confession, include the confession URL or ID and enough detail for the request to be evaluated.
User content and moderation
You are responsible for the content you submit. Do not post unlawful content, doxxing, threats, targeted harassment, personal data about others, copyright infringement, or material that violates applicable law.
Group Hug may review, refuse, remove, hide, or restrict content at its discretion, including to comply with law, enforce site rules, reduce harm, or maintain product integrity.
To report a confession or request removal, use the public reporting flow on the report page.
No warranty and limitation of liability
The site is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. No promise is made that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or suitable for any particular purpose.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator disclaims liability for damages arising from use of the site, user-submitted content, temporary outages, moderation decisions, or reliance on material posted here.
Children and sensitive use
The site is not intended for children. Do not use it if you are under the age required by your local law to consent to online services.
The site is not a crisis, therapy, medical, legal, or emergency service. If you are in immediate danger or crisis, contact local emergency services or qualified support resources in your area.
Copyright and takedown
If you believe content on the site infringes your rights or is otherwise unlawful, send a notice to hello@grouphug.us with enough detail to identify the content and the basis for the request.
For a practical reporting checklist, use the report page.
Links and updates
Links to third-party services are provided for convenience only. Group Hug does not control those services and is not responsible for their content or policies.
These notices may be updated over time. Continued use of the site after a material update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms to the extent allowed by law.
